The factory was founded in 1963 in Cagliari, Sardinia Efisio Orrù when the entrepreneur founded a factory for the production of ice cream to be distributed to the local market.
It was a small artisan factory for many years the same Efisio Orrù conducted independently. Over the
years the quality of products and commitment brought the small factory to take a discreet role in the production of ice cream, so that in 1975 the small building was purchased totalmete dall'Unilever and a series of major investments by small local companies became an international reality.
Since then, with the increased production capacity and continuous technological upgrading of the facilities the establishment of Cagliari has put more and more as a support unit of the establishment of Caivano.Dal 1993 with the installation of the first production line ice cream cakes establishment of Cagliari has taken a leading role in the production of the entire line of cakes Algida, nonchè nella produzione di tanti altri prodotti con notevoli complessità produttive.
La fabbrica di Cagliari grazie ad un'organizzazione molto semplice e ad un impianto pilota d’avanguradia ha assunto anche il ruolo di fabbrica specializzata nei test di sviluppo di buona parte dei gelati prodotti con il marchio Algida.
La produzione è destinata in buona parte al mercato nazionale ed europeo e solo per il 4% è destinata al mercato regionale.
Con l’introduzione delle metodologie di gestione TPM nel corso dell’anno2000, la fabbrica di Cagliari si è posta a pieno titolo come fabbrica di punta del gruppo Unilever.
